PRAISE TEAM

The praise team meets every Sunday morning at 8AM in the sanctuary to rehearse the songs for that Sunday morning. Each member brings their talent to the table in a unique way and learns the songs quickly. The team's goal is to lead the congregation in worship every Sunday with the spirit of God leading them. We have taken requests for songs, some old and some new, and we bring new praise songs to the church as well. Our singer positions are rotating which makes a spot available for those who might like to give it a try! All members have signed "praise team guidelines" stating their belief in the Lord and their understanding of how the team dynamics work. The praise team is an important part of the service and it's exciting to see God moving in that ministry.

St. John’s Praise Team Purpose & Philosophy

We gather together with joy, unified by one Spirit and grounded in love,

to lead the congregation in genuine worship that brings glory to God through songs of praise.

We gather together with joy:

“They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness”

(Psalm 145:7)

* Remembering that praising God is fun, we encourage a spirit of celebration.
* We seek to make our joy contagious to the congregation.  A smile sends a powerful message!

We are unified by one Spirit:

“May God…give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:5).

* Remembering that it is God who draws us together for His purposes, we are sensitive and responsive to the                                             leading of the Holy Spirit.  Our shared commitment is to His glory, rather than our own desires.
* As ministry leaders in the church, we are conscious of the importance of modeling unity to the congregation at all times.  As a unified group we speak well of one another and agree to support the leader as we follow the “Praise Team Guidelines and Expectations.”

We are grounded in love:

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35)

* Remembering that we love one another as brothers and sisters in Christ, we commit to trust each other and to communicate openly and respectfully.  We are patient with one another in our ministry together.
* We support and encourage one another, affirming each other’s gifts.

We lead the congregation in genuine worship that brings glory to God:
”I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart.” (Psalm 138:1).

* Remembering that our purpose is to lead others in authentic worship, we approach Praise Team with a personal attitude of worship.

* We desire to bring our best to God, praising Him with musical excellence.  We remember, however, that Praise Team is not a performance, so we seek to approach our ministry with humble and sincere hearts.

We minister through songs of praise:

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.”

(Ephesians 5:19-20).

* Remembering that although our instrumentation lends itself to contemporary arrangements we seek to explore psalms, hymns, new songs and alternate arrangements, when appropriate.  The Praise Team is not limited to songs of only one style or era.
* An exciting aspect of the Praise Team’s role in a “blended” worship service is the opportunity to approach our music with freshness and creativity.
